Ashmore Reef...  in the Timor Sea.

My wife and I were part of a group of divers who went out of Broome in Sept 1994.
We went to Scott Reef, Serangapatam, and Cartier Island then on to Ashmore Reef.
We had permission to land at Ashmore, and  the resident ranger told me that the sparse vegetation on this small island had been growing, and at last had attracted a small colony of  Buff-banded rails, which had made him very pleased.
He was not pleased however when three Letter-winged Kites turned up and started to eat the rails.
One of the Letter-winged  Kites was still on the island  during our short stay, however it departed soon after  having finished  off the Buff-banded Rails.
