Report of Eaglehawk Neck pelagic trip on 29 October 2000

Group seabird excursion on "Pauletta"; people on board: David Walker, Chris Lester (Victoria), Jeff Gore, Rick Swales, Tim Reid, George Appleby, Don Knowles, Bill Wakefield, Michael Dempsey, Ross and Joan Mullholland (Victoria), Barrie Rose (South Africa), Barry Watkins (South Africa).

Weather: Mostly fine and sunny (~2/8 cloud). Wind WSW force 4. Sea F4 with 2-3m swell from SW.

Sea temps 13.0-13.4oC.

Departed Pirates Bay jetty 0710 and headed east to shelf edge at 0930 at 43o06S 148o15E. At 1100 moved behind travalla drop-line vessel, where most birds were encountered. Returned to Pirates Bay at about 1600.

Many Short-tailed Shearwaters seen, looking no more or less hungry than normal (except for one which had taken to swimming on its back), most albatrosses observed behind the drop line vessel. Good views obtained of all species.
