It also seems to be a good year for White-winged Triller in Melbourne. There
was an conspicuous pair at Banyule, Heidelberg, Melb, last weekend - in the
large River Red Gums next to the main car park.

To Sydney Birdo's.
Do you agree this may be a good year for Trillers in the Sydney area? Have
only been to a few regular haunts and with the records so far, this seems to
be the case. Other fairly regular haunts for them in Sydney are at Cobbity,
Greendale, Penrith Lakes area, Wilberforce, Vineyard, Scheyville, Doonside
and Rouse Hill. In some of these localities, they often breed in groups of
several pairs in close proximity of each other. Has anybody checked
Roockwood Cemetery at Lidcombe, as the Trillers turn up there also.
Has there been any records of Varied Trillers in Sydney? Have heard of the
very few odd sightings turning up in the central coast just north of the
Sydney area. These would be though fairly rare stragglers as they usually
don't occur south of the Gloucester- Taree area.
I have also heard of a recent accepted record of a Yellow-eyed Cuckoo-shrike
in the Illawarra area (to the south of Sydney). What other occurrences have
we had of them in Sydney or the Illawarra. My opinion is that they probably
occassionly come this far south and do so unoticed as they are pretty quiet
and relatively elusive birds. Perhaps they have even turned up in the many
figs around Sydney. There still remains, a lot of large scattered figs in the
Illawarra area, sadly part of what was once one of Australia's largest
Sub-tropical Rainforest areas.
