Yesterday morning, a number of interesting birds were present in the 3
following places in western Sydney:
CATTAI NP (about 15 km north of Windsor) - a brief walk in the
national park produced Wonga Pigeon, Bar-shouldered Dove,
Shining Bronze Cuckoo (NZ form), several Sacred
Kingfishers, Rainbow Bee-eaters, Little Cuckoo-shrikes,
several White-throated Gerygones and many Scarlet
Honeyeaters.
WINDSOR-RICHMOND TURF FARMS - roadside bird watching
produced - Hardhead (12), Banded Lapwings (4 adults with 4 well
growing chicks), a Brush and 2 Pallid Cuckoos, Rainbow
Bee-eaters and a pair of White-winged Trillers.
SHANES PARK AREA - roadside birding produced Collared
Sparrowhawk (1), a pair of Pacific Bazas (hunting along South Creek),
several Pallid Cuckoos, Horsfields and Golden Bronze-cuckoos, 3
male White-winged Trillers, Brown-headed and several Scarlet
Honeyeaters.
Flowering Eucalyptus crebra (Thin-leaved Ironbark) throughout western Sydney
seems to be attracting lots of Honeyeaters. The region appears to be generally
alive with birds due to the good Spring conditions.
This morning, a brief sea watch of Magic Pt Maroubra produced 1-2 Shy
(atleast 1possible steadi), 1-2 Campbell Island and around 20
Black-browed Albatross, loads of Short-tailed and some
Wedge-tailed Shearwaters and atleast 3 Common Terns.
Look forward to hear what others have seen lately.
