Riverina Region of NPWS (based at Griffith) should be contacted before going
into Round Hill Nature Reserve. Under the NPWS definition a Nature Reserve
has no public access except with the permission of NPWS (NR's are for
scientific and educational purposes not for recreation). hey will have no
problems with you accessing the reserve probably only asking for a species
list in return. They may be able to tell you the best spots for bird
watching, and will be able to inform you of local conditions and access (I
would say Whooey Tank is the best spot for a trailer, but the wheat paddock
area is also possible). Their contact number is (02) 6966 8100.
This is not a new rule and is particularly relevant at the moment wth the
fire situation in NSW (if no one knows you are there, they can't assist you
in an emergency situation).

I wonder if anyone could let me know good localities for: Gilbert's Whistler, Sthn Scrub Robin and Ground Cuckoo Shrike? Also any especially good campsites for a camper trailer. Haven't noticed any trip reports from Round Hill of late, but if anyone has been there recently I would be very interested to hear. Many thanks in advance Pat O'MalleyPS high point of the day: a young (White backed) Magpie learning good habitsby diving straight into a banksia in my garden and raiding a Blackbird's nest. I'm sure it emerged licking its lips. The parent was looking on: so Isuspect the young bird was led to a target by the parent which left the restto instinct.
