While of the topic of Morcombe, the inclusion of a picture (as opposed to a
simple reference) of a Flamingo in his Field Guide to Australian Birds is
somewhat audacious - well done!
If you consider that the only recording of a Flamingo is a single record in the
Cocos Islands you might ask why include a picture at all? Indeed there are
numerous once-only birds that do not receive this same honour. The answer I
suppose lies in the aesthetic production of a field guide. Imagine the delight
of the artist when he discovered "le flamant rose", arguably one the world most
attractive and interesting birds, had been seen in Australian territories!
