Today while inside our house in sunny Seven Hills (about 40km west of Sydney), I was excited to have heard the distinctive "pit..pit..pit.." call of atleast one Swift Parrot fly over our backyard. I quickly raced outside the back door (with my parents thinking, has he gone mad!!!) and tried to relocate the Swift Parrot I just heard. I heard it call several times after but still could not locate the bird but heard the call from a Eucalypt in blossom in the property behind ours. I waited a while but unfortunately could not spare the time to be able to locate them. Anyway, a Swift Parrot record for Sydney!!! Maybe If I am lucky it may hang around the next morning. David/Simon I'll send a record sheet on this one.

This is the second time I have had Swift Parrots over our place within the last 3 years and the 3rd time I have had them in Seven Hills.

Today there other migrants present around our home - a Rufous Whistler was singing beautifully in the morning, a Fairy Martin was flying overhead, small flocks of Yellow-faced Honeyeaters and Silvereyes, Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes etc.

To all Sydney birders. NOW is the time to bird. The weather has been great, the water levels in the Hawkesbury look good (probably the best it has been since 1994 for this time of year -great for waders), Spring migrants are quickly arriving, and the Wilson's Phalaropes, Upland Sandpipers are all waiting to be twitched!!!

cheers!

Edwin

PS - I gave the Olympic ceremony atleast 7/10. Watched it with 5 other CBOC Fledglings. Great to see Cathy Freeman light up the Olympic Cauldrom. Didn't however like our uniforms warn by our Athletes during the ceremony (looked like Tomatoes) and the fireworks was no frills. But despite this, probably the best, if not the best cermony I have seen.
