Are male White-winged Trillers really the black and white birds we all assume they are? In the vein of the White-winged Wren debate, a group of four birders with a combined experience of almost 150 years of birding was yesterday watching a large number of White-winged Trillers in the early morning sun. It suddenly became apparant that the head and backs of the males had a green irridescent sheen and certainly could not be classed as pure "black". There was no reflection and this was obvious on all the males. It only became obvious when the sun was shining directly on them. Have others noted this?
