The other weekend I made a trip to Goolengook. This is just south of the
Errinundra
National Park in East Gippsland (Victoria). Goolengook is currently the site
of Australia?s longest running forestry blockade at over 3 years. The area
being blockaded is pristine old growth forest with areas of both warm temperate
and cool temperate rainforest and areas where the rainforest is mixed in with
the wet sclerophyll forest (maturing rainforest).
While I was their primarily for photography and to let the protesters know of
my support. I did do a bit of atlassing. The trip produced 46 species all
listed below. A 30 minute / 2 hectare search along the Heritage listed
Goolengook
River produced 17 species. An area using the same search technique that had
unfortunately been logged 2 years ago produced 5 species.
The Goolengook area would have to be one of the most beautiful areas in all
of Australia, and while I do not want bird
ng-aus used as a forum for protesting,
the area is well worth a visit and congratulations should go to the protesters
who are protecting this wonderful forest. Letters should also be sent to
relevant
politicians pointing out the values of the value and why it should be protected.

to mention especially those that are nocturnal.
