hi b/ausers, in recent discussions on the
pros & cons of revealing sites of rare
species I took no part. However recent
information I recieved from Garry& Barb
Whale of Clarence Valley Birdos,made
me put ink on paper.I had just completed
a article for CBOC my local bird club on
some problems caused by inconsiderate
listers and this latest information only
confirms my fears for the future.
According to Garry at the site of the
Northern Shoveller the owner who we had
been told on this list,is not a nature lover,
is not a birdo lover either now, due to
some listers entering the site without his
permission, making life for the locals more
difficult A recent site where Regent H/Eaters
were reported, once again listers, from QLD
on this occassion, have alienated the property
owner. A couple of years ago when I reported
Painted Snipe, a threatened species no less,
at Bushells Lagoon NSW, Im told by a very reliable
birdo they saw a lister not content to wait
until the birds come into view like normal
birdos but proceeded to flush the birds. At
the same site another birdo drove their car
across a private causway parking on the
other side. This site is now closed to ALL birdos.
A similar occurence at Lake Bathurst NSW
with a suspected USA Golden Plover, land owner
alienated due to inconsiderate birdos. There is
only a small number of keen listers in Aus when
compared to say UK, USA,but it appears to me
that some of us need to put the birds first, property
owners second, other birdos next and their lists
last. Maybe we need to develop some kind of
protocol to cover these situations, any suggestions.
Im a keen lister myself and secretary of NSW
Rarities Committee so I hope this message is
recieved in the same positive way as it is given

kbrandwood.
