I suppose if there are captive Australian Shelducks
one must consider this possibility, but as Dion has
already pointed out, these birds are rare but hardly
unheard of this far north or even further (eg 1 female
Leslie Dam, Warwick Qld October 1992). My own reaction
on finding this bird was one of pleasurable surprise,
but hardly bafflement.

As for the Pintail and Shoveler, the statistical
improbability of their appearance (referred to by
Glenn Holmes) is looking far more likely than the
escapee theory. Until real evidence can be produced
that these birds are of less than divine provenance,
they will remain ticked in my book.
