It must be difficult living in the cities and trying to obtain copies of new
books. Here in Toowoomba, Morecombe's new book has been on the shelf since
last Saturday and is priced at less than $30 (inc GST, Lorne).

I felt that the colours were much too bright but bought a copy anyway. I
have since shown it to three (virtual) non-birders who have field guides
just to check out the birds in their gardens or on their farms. I guess
that this means they are closet birders just waiting to be "outed". They
were happy with the colours and felt they showed the colours that they see
on the birds in their properties. They all felt that the notes around the
illustrations made identification easier as they didn't have to search
through the text.

They were using Slater, Simpson and Day and the Readers Digest book at
present. All three thought that they would buy a copy of Morecombe in the
near future. Obviously, "horses for courses". Two of them especially liked
the colour tags which they felt made the book more user friendly. Another
comment was that it was nice not to have "all that gumpf" that they never
used.

A personal observation - the distribution maps are too small to find limits
of range without some written explanation.
