Hi everybody -

Following on from what Martin was saying about nesting needs, Andrea could
consider trying nestboxes. The Nestbox Book has a design for Pacific Black
Duck (PABD) which could be suitable for modifying (maybe by increasing the
dimensions a bit) for woodies. Dimensions given for the PABD box are 45 cm
long, 35 wide and 35 high, with an entrance diameter of 12 cm. Recommended
height above ground is 1.5 - 2 metres. If the ducks prefer nesting in
green trees, the box could be put in a tree too young to have developed
large enough hollows, or even on a post next to such a tree so that it
could be rat-proofed.

Cheers,
Hugo
