Hi Birders,
In NSW the White-throated Nightjar is considered to be a Summer Breeding Migrant, arriving September and departing March-April, with occasional stragglers in May. However there are a number of records for July-August on the far North Coast north of the Clarence River. Birds have been recorded at Mooball SF in July, and at Wardell, Evans Head, Wollumbin SF, Banyabba SF and Byron Bay in August. Now these birds could be starting the move south, but they are more likely to be present all year round at that location, similar to that of the Rainbow Bee-eater which is also a migrant for most of NSW arriving in September & departing March-April, but on the coastal strip, north of the Clarence River, they are present all year round. Therefore the White-throated Nightjar is most likely to be resident in SE QLD too.
Note that there is however a record of a calling bird at Bega 5/8/1982 (Emu 84, 203).
