Hi Martin, The white Goshawk site is essentially in the eastern foothills of the Blue Mountains, Mulgoa Valley is a few km. south of Penrith in Sydney's far west. The spot we see it has a largish population of Red-browed and Double-barred Finches, Superb and Variegated Fairywrens, various Thornbills, Robins ,Whistlers and Honeyeaters, and is an interface between the foothills with pastureland , regrowth woodland and large gardens. We usually see 40 to 50 species on our intermittent ninety minute walks up the hill, if there are less a Goshawk is usually about, grey phase occur as well. Have never seen prey taken, there is a great early-warning system in the Bell Miner colony nearby, as well as Noisy Miners on the other side of the road. Cheers Michael |
