True North is the direction of the North Pole. Magnetic North is the direction of the North Magnetic Pole, which is not the same thing, and is what a compass points to. Magnetic North is about 10 to 11 degrees East to true north in Victoria. Ths difference, called the magnetic variation, depends on location and changes slowly with time. It is given on most topographic maps. Grid North is the direction of the vertical grid lines on your map. This is different again, and is caused by the transformation from a spheroid, the earth, to a plane, your map. In many cases this can be ignored.
