Hi Birders,
Simon Kennedy, Swift Parrot co-ordinator is in
central coastal NSW at present looking at the Swamp Mahogany and Spotted Gum
forests of the Region in respect to their use by Swift Parrots and Regent
Honeyeaters. His recent sightings of Swift Parrots at South Swansea and Sutton
Reserve, Bateau Bay have been eclipsed today by his find of 35 Regent
Honeyeaters in Aberdare State Forest, south east of Kitchener near Cessnock, and
90 Swift Parrots in Spotted Gum forest between Watson & Hamilton &
Alexander Sts, Ellalong, near Cessnock. The Regents were located by their loud
calling and were in two groups found along a firetrail that goes west through
the forest, off the Quorrobolong Rd, about 1/2 km S of Kitchener and were seen
in the vicinity of Back Creek and another unnamed creek that are crossed by this
2 km long firetrail. The Swift & Regent sites are only a few Kms
apart. For those with a UBD City Link 2000 Street Directory, the appropriate
maps are Nos 123 & 135 in the Newcastle section of the Directory. Simon is
happy for people to check out the sites and report any changes.
