RFI New Zealand birding

Hi all

I am looking at going to New Zealand in December or January.  I'd appreciate 
your help/recommendations as to any organised
birding/nature tours I could do (as opposed to hiring a car and driving around 
myself).  This can be tours on the main NZ
islands themselves, or an Antarctic/islands cruise.

(I have noted Kiwi Wildlife Tours and Heritage Expeditions from Wingspan and 
will be looking at their websites).

Recommendations for field guide would be appreciated also.
