Perhaps the reduction is some areas is due to the appalling practice of
planting those hideous palm trees that everyone seems to be so keen on
these days.
The view from my backyard is gradually being blocked off as more and more
of these monstrosities mature around me!!
When was the last time you saw a Laughing Kookaburra perched in a palm tree
(of any species)?
A pair of Kookaburras used to regularly (at least three years in the early
90s) nest in a large palm (I think it was a date palm) out the front of the
government offices in Griffith, NSW. We were disturbed quite often by one of
the birds flyin into our front window, which was directly accross the road.
Never did learn, but never seemed to do any harm either.
