As a sequel to my queries in March, I can report that Narita provides a delightful day's birding right in the town and round the airport hotels.
My wife and I were in transit to the USA on 18 April.  After an early walk in forest remnants and weedy ground within 500 metres of the Nikko Narita Hotel, we caught the first courtesy bus at 6am from the hotel to the train station.  From there it was 20 minutes walk to the famous Shinshoji Temple (founded 940AD).  We returned to the hotel about 2pm and birded there again briefly.
