Driving the middle of the Hay plains, western NSW, when 3 Silver Gulls flew past into the howling westerly, only a meter or so off the ground. Not a sight of any irrigation etc any where for over 50 Km. Must have been some of the Murray River birds that wandered up the Murrumbidgee and took a short cut 200 Km over land. 6 months ago I saw about 20 Caspian Terns feeding on the the same dry plains. All a long way from the shore.
