I almost missed this, but in Mondays Daily Telegraph (29/5/2000) there was an article on Grey Petrels breeding on Macquarie Island (between Tassie and Antarctica). It mentions that these Petrels have not bred here in more than 100 years. Six nesting burrows of Grey Petrels were found on Macquarie Island and 4 burrows actually had eggs. This follows after a successful 3 year cat eradication program which has allowed these wonderful creatures (the petrels) to breed.

Wonderful news to hear!!
