Hi All,

Some little while ago I posted a note asking if anyone knew what was
happening at Werribee. I received a number of replies that it was business
as usual.

Some time later Gil Langfield independently discovered that things had
changed, sought clarification from "the Farm" and said that he would post
the reply. Meanwhile here is the unnattributable, unofficial good oil.

Things have changed.

Essentially you can't get off the bitumen without a key.

During the week permit holders can borrow a key from the reception at the
Werribee end of New Farm Rd. This key will open G2 padlocks.

If you were in the habit of heading down to South Road, turning right, then
left at the crossroads, passing the now dry lake and intersecting Paradise
Road at No2 Pumping Station forget it! The padlocks in between are not G2,
the key will not fit.

Easiest access is via the Geelong Rd, Point Wilson Rd, Paradise Road. (Also
from South Rd, 65 West has a G2 lock but several intermediate unlocked gates
must be opened and closed).

Good news, Murtcaim is open and so too the lagoons of Hudsonian Godwit fame,
the Spits remains under the control of Parks Vic & is subject to a separate
permit not within the gift of Melbourne Water. The "conservation ponds" are
open.

At the weekend - no key no access. Key can be picked up Monday to Friday!
But ... they will send you one by mail if you send a self addressed and
stamped envelope early in the week.

Permit holders, important organisations & other stakeholders will get notice
and new maps in due course!

So, not a disaster.

Liability concerns are important considerations in these changes also recent
problems with theft of various things and damage to and wandering of stock.
There are always a few that balls it up for the many - Please remember to
book in properly.

And Gil, remember, there is nothing odd about my postings.

Bob Berry.
