Subject: Denotification movement of Wildlife Sanctuary
and Ramsar site
Dear all,
Here is a request to all members to stop a movement by a
section of
people including politicians to denotify a Wildlife Sanctuary in
Assam,
India which has also recently declared as a Ramsar site.
Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary is situated near Guwahati city,
Assam. This
is mainly a wetland surrounded by forest areas which supports
a lot of
migratory birds as well as residential birds and one of the
main feeding
grounds of Greater Adjutant (Leptoptilos dubius), the globaly
endangered
stork species, and Assam is its last hope for survival. Other
than that the
area is also used by threatend and endangered wildlife
including Royal
Bengal Tiger and Asian Elephant. One more important point is
that Deepor
Beel Wildlife Sanctuary is the main water receding area for the Guwahati
city which has about 10,000,00 human population.
A section of people including politicians for their some personal benefits
are now trying to denotify the sanctuary.
May I request to all of you to send letters to the following addresses to
request not to denotify the wildlife sanctuary.
Mr. T.R. Ballu
Union Minister for Environment and Forest,
Parayavaran Bhavan,
C.G.O. Complex,

and to
Mr. P.K. Mahanta,

and to

Thanking you all.
