G'day all.
When I checked that wonderful resource
"Birding-Aus Archives" at
http://www.shc.melb.catholic.edu.au/home/birding/index.html
I found 20 messages under the heading "Abbreviations"
covering much the same subject.

I have copied several.

Edwin Vella in part wrote:-
. . . We must understand that we are sending messages to a
whole range of birdo's not just those that know every abbreviated birding
name or term. . .

John Leonard wrote:-
Could I propose a simple house-rule for birding-aus concerning
abbreviations (henceforth abbs):
1. First mention of a species in any e-mail, full name
2. Any subsequent mention, abbreviate it how you like.

Julian Bielewicz related:-
how even BA(RAOU) committed a BU between a
Black-bellied Storm-petrel (BBSP) and a
Broad-billed Sandpiper (BBSP)

Even "the GST is not a Goods & Services Tax, but a
 Grey Shrike-thrush! . . .gets a couple of mentions !

Most of the others are just as interesting, and some very funny,
 and all worth a look.
(Birding-aus was having a duplications messages, even then,
so the duplicated hyperlinks have to be ignored)
Regards...Bob Forsyth
