G'day all... Drongo Jones here... just back from a successful two weeks
in Kakadu... I finally got a magpie goose!!!!!!!! Can you believe it????
I've been after one of those for five years.
Tried for the grasswren and rock-pigeon, but fell down an escarpment and
broke both arms. Has been difficult to hold binoculars since.
Had a great view of a Peaceful Dove at the Jabiru medical centre. It was
in a cage in the waiting room.
The only croc I saw was the big hotel one at Jabiru.
Bumped into a bloke who told me where to find a Hooded Parrot when I was
in the territory... got to the spot and found a big bloody uranium mine
whole in the gound... no luck on the bird... did get a 'northern form'
Indian Mynah which was good. Definitely an 'exotic' tick.
Back at Mascot airport Sydney, I dipped on the usual Silver gulls.
Now if I can only get a Crested Tern somewhere here in Sydney I'll be
beaming!!
Gotta go and read up some more info from my Dad's precious notebooks -
he was a common starling breeder. My great great great great grandfather
helped introduce feral pigeons to Australia. My great uncle wasn't
called Toady Jones for nothing... he introduced the Cane Toad... but
that's another kettle of toadlets...
Later.
Drongo.
PS - Remember, 'a bird in the hand's a bird I'll probably dip on!'
