SEABIRDS AT RISK

As more and more species head toward diminished numbers and even extinction,
the Southern Hemisphere Ornithological Congress (SHOC 2000) will examine the
impact of both natural and man-made threats to sea birds.

The Congress will be held at Griffith University, Brisbane, from 27 June to
2 July 2000 and will present over 200 speakers.

Thursday, 29 June will offer an opportunity to examine Seabird Conservation
Issues. The Southern Hemisphere, particularly the Antarctic Oceans, is home
to a very large proportion of the world's seabirds. This Symposium focuses
on threats to habitat and food supply including those from international
fisheries, oil spills, while human visitation and stress may affect the
health of individuals.
