For those in the sheep-wheat belt of New
South wales: WOODLANDS SEMINARS
Two seminars are being organised as part
of the Birds Australia/NSW NPWS Woodland Birds Project. One will be on
Tuesday April 11th at Forbes and the other will be on Wednesday April 12th at
Gunnedah, both seminars starting at 1pm.
The situation being addressed is the
decline of a group of woodland-dependent birds and the loss of most of the
original woodlands from the sheep-wheat belt of NSW. Speakers will discuss
loss of habitat and its effects on birds and other wildlife, land management
practices, revegetation, rehabilitation and the ecology of
woodlands.
The seminars have been especially
designed for extension workers, landowners, people in agencies who work to
assist or advise land managers, birdlovers, or anyone with an interest in the
agricultural and ecological future of this huge area.
Speakers include Dr Dennis Saunders
(CSIRO), Prof Hugh Ford (UNE Armidale), Dr Sue Briggs (NPWS Research Unit), Dr
Barry Traill (Woodlands Ecologist), Ms Sue Wakefield (Bathurst) and Mr David
Curtis (Armidale) representing Greening Australia.
There will be no charge for the
