For those in the sheep-wheat belt of New South wales: WOODLANDS SEMINARS

Two seminars are being organised as part of the Birds Australia/NSW NPWS Woodland Birds Project.  One will be on Tuesday April 11th at Forbes and the other will be on Wednesday April 12th at Gunnedah, both seminars starting at 1pm.

The situation being addressed is the decline of a group of woodland-dependent birds and the loss of most of the original woodlands from the sheep-wheat belt of NSW.  Speakers will discuss loss of habitat and its effects on birds and other wildlife, land management practices, revegetation, rehabilitation and the ecology of woodlands.

The seminars have been especially designed for extension workers, landowners, people in agencies who work to assist or advise land managers, birdlovers, or anyone with an interest in the agricultural and ecological future of this huge area.

Speakers include Dr Dennis Saunders (CSIRO), Prof Hugh Ford (UNE Armidale), Dr Sue Briggs (NPWS Research Unit), Dr Barry Traill (Woodlands Ecologist), Ms Sue Wakefield (Bathurst) and Mr David Curtis (Armidale) representing Greening Australia.

There will be no charge for the seminars, but pre-registration ASAP is necesssary.  All details and Registration Form from: Woodland Birds Project Officer, Judie Peet - fax 02 6884 8675, or email or phone 02 6882 2056
