G'day all

One of my favourite singer/songwriters - Van Morrison - mentioned birdwatching
in a song.

The album was "Avalon Sunset" (1989) and the song was "Coney Island". Here are
the first four lines:-

Coming down from Downpatrick
Stopping off at St. John's Point
Out all day birdwatching
And the craic was good

If you have been to Northern Island you might recognise the localities.
Unfortunately he doesn't give a list of birds seen. "Craic" by the way is a
northern-Irish term that conveys the combined sensations of good conversation,
good company, good times etc. When I first heard the lyrics I thought Van and
his friends were birding with performance enhancing drugs. Actually something
to steady your binocular grip would be useful at times...

Cheers

Steve
