Peter,
Does this mean you have or don't have the Australian Passerines book
published by Dick Schodde and Ian Mason? Being from Canberra, you could have got
it from COG for $100. Their reasons are in there (on pages 385 to 388) but I am
not going to retype it all for you. My short understanding, after a quick look,
is that Petroica multicolor is reserved for the Pacific Robin
(otherwise known as the Scarlet Robin of Norfolk Island) and our Scarlet Robin
of s-e Australia is named as P. boodang.
