I'm sorry I know its taxonomy again...... but it is good fun after all!
In the latest issue of Flightlines (Number 24, Jan 2000) a number of
changes to species numbers are given as a result of the adoption of the
latest taxonomy of Australian Passerines published by Dick Schodde and Ian
Mason.
Some of the perennial taxonomic itinerants wander in and out of specific
status but one split is new to me.
Pacific Robin (Petroica boodang) has been split from Scarlet Robin
(Petroica multicolor).
Is anyone able to enlighten me?
On the light-hearted side this taxonomy increases my hytpothetical list by
4 in an official sense. Unofficially, it increases by 5 since I have
always refused to count Tasmanian Scrubwren (now defucnt) as a species on
my personal hypothetical tally (even though I forced myself to look at them
once..... they didn't look like they eat squid, therefore not worht a
second look).
Happy List-counting!
