On the weekend my husband and I saw 3 ready-to-fledge baby
figbirds sitting beside their nest preening ... the thing which was unusual
was that all 3 were exactly the same colour as a male figbird, even down to the
eye-patch, although theirs was more pink than red. We were both under the
impression that all baby figbirds are the same colour as the female (as per the
Readers Digest Bird Book). We have seen numerous baby figbirds and even
raised several ourselves, but have never once seen one with the colours of the
male bird when first fledged, let alone 3 from one nest.
Can someone out there enlighten us?
