Hi Amanda,
the definitive reference on Torres Strait birds is: Draffan, R.D.W, S.T.
Garnett & G.J. Malone, 1983. Emu 83: 207-234, entitled "Birds of the Torres
Strait: an annotated list and biogeographic analysis."
The Emu is a journal published by the RAOU (= Birds Australia) and should be
available in your local university library or at your state Museum or state
birdwatching organization, if you can't make it to Birds Australia or BOCA
libraries, located in Melbourne, both of which have the journal but not for
lending. National Library in Canberra has Emu and state libraries are worth
a try.
Apart from that there have been several articles on the islands of
north-west Torres Strait near PNG (Boigu, Saibai and Dauan - in Australian
Birding Magazine in the last 4 years or so. If you are interested in these,
email Margaret Cameron <> to see if back copies are available.
Cheers
Peter Lansley
