Happy New Year to You All,
In July this year, to celebrate our 30th birthdays, my wife and I are going
paddling around the Yasawa Islands in Fiji (to the north-west of Viti
Levu).
Before we go I am trying to bone up on the birds I might see while we are
there.
To that end I have two questions:
1. Field Guide.
I looked at the fantastic resource that is the Birding-Aus archive and saw
Richard Nowotny's reports and RFI's in '97. At that time he recommended
Pratt, Bruner and Berrett's "The birds of Hawaii and the Tropical Pacific".
Is this still the best field guide to get?
2. Bird Tours.
This is a bit topical as more and more frequently I am engaging tourism
operators with an avian interest to help me identify those birds I didn't
spend hours memorising from the field guide (Nothing better than a walking,
talking field guide!).
We may have one or one and a half extra days on Viti Levu at which time we
could either hire a car, as Richard did, or go on a bird tour if such a
thing exists. Any information on this would be warmly received.
Any other advice or information or trip reports that people might have
would be greatly appreciated and help me prepare for a pretty exciting
trip.
Regards,
Stuart.
I think someone as asking about the adress of the Birding-Aus archive page
it is:
http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/birding-aus/
