Afternoon all!

Being a recently new member of the Hunter Bird Observers Club, I have not
been familiar with what local sightings etc are of significance. Upon
studying the annual bird report the other night, I came across the
Australian Hobby, no breeding records. A pair have nested here at the local
golf course for at least the last 2 to 3 years that I am aware.

Anyway , as a golfer myself I have been able to keep an eye on things when
I play. On Wednesday, I saw one adult bird & heard young calling from the
nesting tree ( a Spotted Gum around 50-60 metres high ). Today I went back
to get a sighting on the young . I was just in time to see one adult bring
in what looked like a Noisy Minor, 2 young appeared to accept the food (
they were out of the nest ). The other adult appeared not long after & both
adult birds left to hunt for more food. Although I scoured the nesting tree
to see the young again they were well hidden. Just as I was leaving both
adults returned without food & rested in the tree next door. Not a sound
out of the juveniles.

I am sure if Alan Stuart reads this it will be of interest. On another note
the Stubble Quail are still at home , have heard them every day since the
2nd January.

Cheers

Dick Jenkin
