Gooday all,
Paul mentioned the difficulty in estimating numbers of Swifts
"They are pretty
difficult to count when some are well up in the sky and others are wooshing
by a metre from your head"
Recently I viewed a large flock of Fork-tailed Swifts at Bowen. I gave a
very liberal estimate of 400 birds.
David James then mentioned a flock of FtS in the Townsville region that
numbered 2000.
After reading this report and taking into consideration my comments in my
original report I would have to agree that estimating Swift numbers is a
difficult task. With this in mind I wish to state that the number of birds
present at Bowen would have been well in excess of 1500 birds.
