Hi all,
A belated happy new year to everyone.
Over the 1st week of January I have spent quite some time birdwatching in
the "populated" (?) parts of SA. Here are some highlights:
300 Cape Barren Geese near Tolderol reserve near Murray Bridge
1 Latham's Snipe at Tolderol
a flock of Budgerigars approx. 50 km North of Murray Bridge
a flock of Budgerigars at Gluepot
an Elegant parrot at Gluepot
a Red-lored Whistler at Gluepot
Redthroats and White-winged Fairy-wrens near Morgan
Regent Parrots all over the place
Musk Ducks and White-winged Fairy-wrens at Stockyard Plains
Malleefowl working its mound in a private sanctuary near Waikerie
We have moved into our own place just before Xmas, set in a piece of mallee
scrub near Waikerie and there are nice lawns under the mallee trees; the lawns
need frequent watering and this always attracts many birds such as grey shrike
thrushes, rufous whistlers, silvereyes, weebills, different thornbills,
rosellas, even regent parrots.
From the back verandah we can view a weebill's nest, a grey shrike thrush
nest and a bronzewing nest.
Cheers
Peter Waanders
