I have not done any birding in that area (other than observing a Ringneck at the Darr River and a Sea Eagle at Aramac) but following may be of some assistance

There are several National Parks in the area including
-Bladensburg (Winton area)
-Idalia
-Lochern
-Welford

Leaflets are available from
Longreach District Office

There are cruises along the Thompson river which can be tailored to hirers needs
