Went Xmas shopping today in the city: a good excuse to go the the Melbourne Botanic Gardens. A staff member said the powerful owl had not been seen for about a month and that there had been a suspicion it might have been breeding on the Long Island in the lake. The flying fox population has stabilised at about 3000 animals. The powerful owl was not seen with any of these as prey, only possums.
