Locally my most fond 1999 memory is of a very confiding female Scarlet Robin, which I was able to show to a friend: my 150th species in Bayside. It was also great that my group - the Friends of Native Wildlife, in association with Bayboca - identified some more Superb Fairy-wren nests and now have the evidence to withdraw from their stance that the introduced boxthorn is crucial to the local survival of the species. I had three serious birding days out of the area: magic views of White-browed Babblers (and a tree goanna) in the Little Desert, lovely Hooded Plover chicks and some waders I hadn't seen before. But I was so tired from heaving shells to help regenerate a Fairy Tern nesting site that I don't remember what they were !
