DEAR BIRDING-AUSSERS
WITH THE OCCASIONAL REPORTS OF UNUSUAL BANDS ON BIRDS, I TOO THOUGHT I WOULD TRY FOR INFO THROUGH THIS MEDIUM ! ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO (NOV.1997)AT SEASPRAY,EAST GIPPSLAND, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA, I SPOTTED A BANDED IMMATURE(APPROX.2 YEAR OLD)PACIFIC GULL. ON IT'S LEFT LEG WAS A NORMAL METAL BAND AND ON THE RIGHT LEG A READABLE BAND. THE NUMBERS WERE VERTICAL AND ON THERE SIDE AND THEY READ 1112. AT THE TIME THE BANDING OFFICE COULD'NT HELP ME BUT MENTIONED THAT IN 1986 MR. BRUCE ROBERTSON WAS BANDING BIRDS AT NORMAN ISLAND,VIC.WITH READABLE BANDS BUT WITH A V PREFIX FOLLOWED BY 3 DIGITS,( I.E. V112.) AS THIS WAS,AT THE TIME, OVER 11 YEARS AGO ALL THESE BIRDS WOULD NOW BE ADULTS.
CAN ANYONE HELP OUT THERE ? ( N.Z.?!)
                  WITH THANKS ,GRAHAM BEAL.
