Today I was at the Sydney Botanical Gardens and saw an unusual looking duck in the the main pond below the kiosk. It was about 2/3 the size of the grey ducks with which it was associating, and superficially similar to a whistling duck. It had a brown back and cream flank plumes, underdeveloped compared to a whistler. The rest of the field marks I don't recall. There is nothing in my field guide like it. I suspect it is a cross of some sort, probably semi-domesticated. Is anyone familiar with this bird and know what it is ? Incidently, the banded rail was making an appearance near the kiosk, a little shy of the lunchtime crowds. thanks Arron ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
