Gooday all,
As the latest theme at birding-aus is twitching I thought you may be
interested in this little snippet that I discovered in some correspondence.
It came from an English paper no date but the date of the letter was Oct
1984.
"Watch out for a rare old joker.
Bird watchers were left with egg on their faces yesterday after hours of
watching a rare night heron.
They eventually discovered the bird they thought was asleep in a tree was
actually stuffed.
Naturalist Alan Johnson was among the group that first spotted the bird at
Bigwaters nature reserve, near Newcastle.
He said "Whoever played this joke has caused a lot of annoyance. Many people
came long distances to see it."
