I agree with Michael that we should promote more on Twitchathons/birding to the wider community. The whole bird week should be promoted every year. Perhaps Birds Australia could air a commercial raising public awareness towards bird Conservation. Birds are said to be our indicators for the environment after all. There is no doubt that Birding is a growing hobby in Australia. Ofcourse, the more we publicise it, the more birdo's we have. Over the years I have encountered a number of birdo's in the field who are not a member of any club and who are interested in joining one, so I promote them the club I am in (namely, the CBOC). I wonder how many Australians actually partcipate in birding? (I believe It would be atleast 2000 people throughout Australia). Birding can also contribute greatly to tourism in Australia. I am sure there is alot of potential to convert many others (of various age groups) into the great hobby of birding. I certainly was. cheers! Edwin |
