G'Day Y'all :

Ros Laundon was kind enough to remark that she had not seen any replies to
my recent question regarding Birding Software for Oz. Actually, I was
'deluged' with very prompt and very kind replies; all of which gave me
similar messages viz.: <<Simpson and Day's Birds of Australia from Natural
Learning P/L is available from Birds Australia shop,
www.vicnet.net.au/~birdsaus >>. I was impressed with the help offered, and
I answered each privately. I will probably go ahead and get this CD-ROM
although I do worry that it is no more than a scanned Field Guide. If
anyone already has that product, I'd appreciate a 'user report'.

If you really want to see a great product for the US (or for bird lovers
anywhere), go to www.thayerbirding.com and spend 10 minutes looking around
the site. The CD-ROMs not only provides ID with male/female/nesting/feeding
photographs but also often provides video clips of perching/feeding/flight
behavior. And of course summer/winter ranges, bird song, an Avian Jukebox,
an interactive song quiz et al. Outstanding. (By the way, I have nothing to
do with Thayer - I just wish it was my product!!!) It's just great to be
able to sit down at night and review a daytime discovery/first sighting or
to compare songs etc.

Anyway, as a newcomer to this forum, I'm very impressed.

Cheers,
