Hi all thanks for the comments on the Flock Bronzewing. I had thought of the feather soaking trick, and indeed the bird in flight is reminiscent of Sandgrouse (not that I've seen one in the wild, but I have on telly, and many other people have commented on the resemblance). Interesting thatalighting on water is a documented feature of the bird's behaviour. It was one of those things that seemed completely unexpected.
