Better late than never as they say in the classics. We had our first Dollarbirds here at surburban Nundah/Wavell Heights last weekend. We back on to the corner of Shaw Park. I had seen a pair a week earlier just south of Somerset Dam township. I heard my first Koels in this area yesterday but have been hearing them for about four weeks in various other parts of SE Q'ld. First Channel-billed Cuckoos here last Friday. Our resident Sacred Kingfishers returned just on four weeks ago and are busy nesting. As a matter of interest we have Black-faced Cuckoo-Shrikes nesting just near our back deck an it is good to see both birds sharing incubation duties. I am always amazed at the neat little nest they make for such a relatively large bird.
