Here at Cassowary House, Kuranda (near Cairns!) we have just had the first 2 White-throated Needletails go over today, Oct. 7. The first Koel I heard was on Oct 5. Black-faced Monarchs are back, and Rufous Fantail is still here, whilst a Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove in the garden was a surprise this week, the first I've seen here. A male and female Cassowary came together on Oct 6, the male having been away since he chased off the chicks back in May, and only reappearing again on Oct 4. The female has been around for a month or so, but the birds dispersed widely down the ranges this winter and there is no sign of the 3 chicks here at present. Good birding. Phil Gregory
