Gentle Australians:
My friend and neighbor, Don Crockett, proprietor of The Virtual Birder
webpage from New England [US], supplied your emails from his sources. I
am a Yank journalist coming to Melbourne & Victoria (October 27-Nov 4)
and Wellington & Nelson & Hawke Bay (October 20-26) to cover both the
Wangaratta and Wellington Jazz Festivals for Downbeat Magazine as well as
to pen a few wine and travel stories for other publications (Boston
Herald, Middlesex News, Mass Beverage Biz Journal). As an experienced
birder, nothing would please me more than being able to catch a few of
your avian denizens on the fly, as it were.
All I lack is knowledge of the habitats, wheels, and companionship.
(Yes, I must read up on the books a bit more, as well.)
Can anyone put me in touch with some amiable birders I might join up with
at some point during my stays in either locale?
Cheers,
Fred Bouchard
Fred writes for Downbeat, Bossa, and other publications, hosts
Crosscurrents (WMBR-FM, MIT Radio, Cambridge, MA, 88.1kc, 2-4 pm
Thursdays) and AGLIO (an Italian wine-dine club.) Reach him at
by snail mail at 12 Wellman St, Brookline 02446 MA,
or phone 617-566-3765.
