G'day

I am looking at taking a week off in late October / early November to do
a spot of birdwatching in the Mackay - Townsville region [I'd like to
see the summer migrants - possibly in their breeding plumage].

I'm planning to spend a bit of time at Eungella, Whitsundays, Townsville
and Paluma. Could those in the know please fill me in on the local
birding hotspots. In particular, I'd appreciate suggestions as to which
of the readily accessible Whitsunday islands is the best for waders and
seabirds.

Thanks.

PS an old man turkey [has substantial wattle] returned a couple of weeks
ago after long absense to reclaim the mound just the other side of our
back fence. It's prime turkey real estate and he took no time evicting
the young turks who had taken possession in his absense. It is
interesting to watch the way his wattle moves when he grunts. He had a
visitor on the mound this morning, but he was excavating after it left,
so possibly it was a female who had come to check the state of the
mound.

Regards, Laurie.
